A hospitalist is a physician who focuses exclusively on caring for hospitalized patients. From admission through discharge, hospitalists manage complex medical conditions that require continuous monitoring and coordinated care.\n\nThey oversee treatment plans, order and interpret tests, adjust medications, and collaborate with specialists, nurses, and therapists. Hospitalists also communicate regularly with patients and families, explaining changes in condition and treatment decisions.\n\nA key part of the hospitalist’s role is discharge planning. They ensure patients leave the hospital safely with clear follow-up instructions and continuity of care once they return home or move to rehabilitation.
